【概要】

87年のモーターショーで展示されていた『AXV-II』が元となり、フロントガラスからルーフ一体のドアガラス、リアハッチガラスで覆われたグラッシーキャビンを持って誕生したセラ。最大の特徴であるガルウイングドアを採用、斜め前方に持ち上げるようにドアを開閉し、乗降する。車体強度や転倒時の安全確保や、開閉時の操作性や悪天候時の対処と念入りに研究・開発されている。1.5Lを搭載し、前輪駆動、4ATか5MTが組み合わされる。基本はモノグレードの設定で、室内に合わせて音響解析したスーパーライブサウンドシステム（CD・10スピーカー・DSP搭載）装着車が選べる。

The Toyota Sera is a sporty 2+2 hatchback designed by Toyota to be sold solely for the Japanese market from 1990 to 1995. It was initially unveiled in 1988 as the Toyota AXV-II concept car in almost production-ready form. The name comes from the French word meaning 'will be', indicative of both the overall futuristic design and also the closeness of the concept car to the final production version. The Sera is most notable for its glass canopy and butterfly doors which tilt up and forward when opened. The dramatic styling later inspired Gordon Murray in the design of the iconic McLaren F1.
