レクサス初のFセグメントのクーペモデルであり、2012年にデトロイトモーターショーで発表したコンセプトカー「LF-LC」の革新的なデザインイメージをモチーフに、新開発プラットフォームによる骨格を活かして開発が行われた。 「LC500」とハイブリッドシステムを搭載する「LC500h」の2種が用意され、今後のレクサスのFR車に展開される「GA-L（Global Architecture-Luxury）プラットフォーム」を初採用した。クーペということで、運動性能もさることながら、スーパースポーツを意識したデザイン、フラッグシップにふさわしい内装や静粛性を誇る。
