【概要】

マツダのオープンスポーツカー、『ロードスター』（海外名：『MX-5』）を最大出力を320psへ引き上げた軽量なレーシングカーモデル。マツダUKと現地のイオタスポーツが発表したもので、2013年シーズンの英国GT選手権に参戦した『MX-5 GT4』。
ターボチャージャーで過給されるMZR型2.0リットル直列4気筒ガソリンエンジンは、最大出力を従来の275psから320psへパワーアップ。45psのパワー向上を成し遂げた。トランスミッションはパドルシフトの6速シーケンシャル。
徹底した軽量化が施されるのも、MX-5 GT4の特徴。ドアはカーボンファイバー、窓ガラスはポリカーボネート製に変更された。内装材や快適装備も省かれ、強固なロールケージを装着。これらの軽量化の結果、車重は1000kgに抑えられる。
MX-5 GT4は、英国のモータースポーツ関係者に向けて販売開始。現地で公表された価格は、12万5000ポンド（約1560万円）。

Introduced in 1989, the Mazda MX-5, also knows as the Eunos Roadster or Miata, has been many people's go-to choice for an entry level sports car. NA was the codename for the original model, which was succeeded in 1997 by the NB, which in turn was succeeded in 2005 by the NC. Combined, all MX-5 models have sold over one million units worldwide, making it the best-selling sports car of all time.

NC, beginning production in 2005 at Mazda's Hiroshima plant, was the third generation of the MX-5 lineage. Traction control and stability control were introduced for the first time with this generation, along with a larger 2.0 litre engine option. A dry weight of 1,110 kilos ensured the NC was light enough to utilise the most of the larger engine without sacrificing accessibility or comfort. These changes coupled with new multilink suspension technology adopted from the larger RX-8 ensured the NC would be the best driving experience possible at the time for the little sports car.

On the outside, the NC was a clear evolution of the round lines from the NB. Some of the more bulbous angles were cleaned up, and the car was given more muscular and pronounced fenders compared to its predecessors. A mild facelift was introduced in 2008, dubbed NC2, which brought the facia more in-line with other Mazda models of the late 2000s. Some minor internal refreshes were carried out with NC2 as well, such as raising the redline of the engine by 500 rpm.

Like all other generations of the MX-5, the NC has been popular worldwide as a grassroots entry in motorsports. In 2012, British-based company Jota Sport was contracted to build an FIA GT4 version of the successful sports car for use in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship. One could buy it as a customer entry for the eyewatering equivalent of $197,000, pre-tax. A considerable jump from the base car's price.

This specific iteration of the MX-5 is a GT4-spec version developed using the pre-facelift NC. A large rear wing, safety roll cage, front splitter, front aero extensions and digital instrumentation have been added. The power has been raised to a hearty 353 horses, while the weight has been slashed by 100 kilos compared to the road car. Compared to more modern GT4 entries, it can still compete, but the car is more towards the bottom of the field in terms of raw pace. A skilled driver will be neccesary to extract winning performance.
